DESCRIPTION
The Carmi – Carrara and Michelangelo Museum is housed in Villa Fabbricotti, a 19th-century building located within the Padula Park in the city of Carrara. As its name implies, it’s dedicated and focused on Michelangelo Buonarroti, one of the greatest artists who ever lived and who spent important periods of his life on this land.
The museum complex has three levels and houses on the main floor the permanent exhibition focused on the figure of Michelangelo.
For the first time, an exhibition venue is entirely dedicated to the artist’s peculiar relationship with the territory, the city of Carrara and marble.
Michelangelo, Carrara and marble are the trait d’union of the six thematic rooms located on the main floor in a path that winds through reproductions such as the 1:1 scale Moses, holograms such as that of the David coming to life in one room, videos, photographs, prints, facsimiles, videos and historical documents.
The raised ground floor, designed for temporary exhibitions, houses an in-depth section on the history of the Villa and the Fabbricotti family.
The exhibition route is completing by the basement floor where, in addition to rooms reserved for teaching and reading and a cafeteria space, there are two rooms dedicated to the film productions that in 2017 celebrated the link between Michelangelo and the city of Carrara: Andrei Konchalovsky’s The Sin and Emanuele Imbucci’s Michelangelo – Infinity with Enrico Lo Verso and Ivano Marescotti.
Surrounding the Villa building is the Padula Park, transformed at the 11th Sculpture Biennial in 2002 into an artistic park of environmental artworks thanks to the contribution of internationally renowned artists.
