DESCRIPTION
The Gigi Guadagnucci Museum is dedicated to the renowned sculptor, born in Massa but later trained in France, where he spent much of his life. Guadagnucci is considered one of the greatest marble sculptors of the 20th century, and his artistic journey can be explored within the museum through the numerous works on display.
The sculptures of Guadagnucci were donated to the Municipality of Massa by the artist himself and his wife, with the specific aim of creating an exhibition space that would house a significant selection of his entire body of work.
The museum is located on the ground floor and basement of the 17th-century Villa della Rinchiostra, surrounded by a beautiful park and chosen personally by the artist as the site for his works.
Gigi Guadagnucci’s creations span from 1957 to 2005, with most characterized by the virtuosity with which he worked the material—primarily marble, but also bardiglio, limestone, onyx, and travertine. His works touch on a variety of themes, including nature, his homeland, eros, and celestial bodies.
The museum’s itinerary aims to showcase the diversity of Guadagnucci’s artistic life, the expressive power of his sculptures, the extraordinary craftsmanship of his technique, and the results of his research, which bridge the boundary between abstract and figurative art.
