DESCRIPTION
Owned by the Municipality of Massa, the Pellegrini-Ansaldi Botanical Garden is located at approximately 900 meters above sea level and was established in 1966 with the aim of studying and preserving the unique flora of the Apuan Alps.
On a small scale, the Botanical Garden represents the diverse environments of the Apuan Alps, which is reflected in its vegetation: within a limited and accessible space, visitors can find the most significant plant species of the Apuan flora.
The Botanical Garden extends along a mountain hiking trail, where many of the endemic species exclusive to these mountains can be admired.
Upon reaching the summit, the breathtaking view stretches from the surrounding peaks to the Ligurian Sea coastline, offering a privileged perspective that highlights the intricate mosaic of environments and landscapes characterizing the Apuan region. Additionally, the panorama provides insight into how various factors — such as geographical position, altitude, exposure, climate, and geology — contribute to the rich plant biodiversity of these mountains.
