DESCRIPTION
Originally serving as the private garden of the prince (it’s located next to the Academy of Fine Arts), the space was completely renovated at the end of the 19th century and later dedicated to the politician Antonio Gramsci. Within the gardens, amidst trees and marble busts, stands the Music Stand, a Liberty-style bandstand that evokes the festive atmosphere of Carrara’s evening gatherings.
The Floating Marble Sphere, a work by American artist Kenneth Davis, is an ode to the lightness of marble. Meanwhile, Carrara’s anarchist spirit is commemorated in the monument to Alberto Meschi, created by sculptor Nelli—the first tribute of its kind in Italy to honor an anarchist.
The garden also features numerous other busts and sculptures dedicated to notable figures. In the background, completing the scenic backdrop, stands the building of the Schools of the Daughters of Jesus, along with the Lodovici Civic Library.
