DESCRIPTION
The Fountain of the Moorish Woman is a work by Carrara sculptor Cesare Poli, crafted from bardiglio marble, which gives it a distinctive color resembling bronze statues. It depicts a nude woman holding an amphora, surrounded by various symbols of the Fascist era. The bas-reliefs portray agricultural labor, and water flows from the mouth of a Moor’s head. The work appears to be inspired by Italy’s colonization of Africa.
