DESCRIPTION
The mountain is located on the main watershed of the Apuan chain: it is a wall of rock shaped by four distinctive humps that give it its name. Il Cavallo is a wall of cherty limestones (schistose rocks with highly inclined layers) resting on a marble base. The mountain slopes impressively descend into the valley: towards the sea, the humps become steep rock slabs that gradually turn grassy, at the base of which runs a rather neglected trail.
The mountain is severe and can be climbed, but with great caution.
